SEMI FINAL 1
| Fillippe Chong won this one as expected and was joined in making the final by Anders Solberg, Bjorn Haagensen, Bart Williamson and Olle Nyman, who all recorded double figure returns. Vaclav Ruzucha surprised a few in the crowd with a fine 9 point return to finish 6th whilst highly fancied Poles Rafal Aranowski and Norbert Pakiet were made to work hard to qualify, the pair beating Jack Hagen in a runoff for the final places. A few riders will have been a little disappointed by their displays with Reznik Baluch (6 points) certainly hoping to make the final while Nelson, Bonham-Wells and Ruuska were all expected to do better in the pre-meeting betting. The final takes place in 3 weeks' time and the big question now is can anybody produce the meeting of their career so far and upset huge favourite Fillippe Chong? |

| One huge shock in this although 6 of the pre-meeting favourites to qualify did make it through - in the shape of Eddie Mabo, meeting winner with 14 points, fellow rostrum finishers Rumum Dimotrov & Hasse Blomqvist and Boris Kravchuk, Jakub Baran and Henk Knapke. The biggest surprise on the day was the display of Eugene Burkes who finished 6th with 8 points, despite an engine failure in heat 10, to make it to the final. The final place was taken by Kenneth Krogh when he beat Leo McFarlance in a runoff. McFarlane was expected to get through without too many problems but his non-qualification wasn't the biggest shock of the day. That was the display of in-form Russian tipped Mikhail Federenko, who many expected to go on and at least challenge for a rostrum place in the final itself; he started well but a fall in his second race seemed to knock him and when he failed to register in two other heats it meant he was out.
