THE ANDY DAVIDSON MEMORIAL AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX

OLLE BJORN THORESEN (TEESSIDE TRANSPORTERS) made it two GP wins in a row with an outstanding performance that fired him up the standings and into 2nd overall after 3 of the 8 rounds.  It was also an excellent afternoon's work for LIAM REAY (MILTON KEYNES CATS) who scored 16 in coming 2nd to extend his lead at the top of the overall leaderboard to 7 points over Thoresen as his nearest challengers before this struggled to match his scoring power.  CHRIS ADAMS (WEDNESFIELD WANDERERS) and FILLIPPE CHONG (WANTAGE KINGS) were the other riders in the Grand Final and the pair ended the day 3rd and 6th on the scorechart after 3 rounds.

NICK AMBROSE (CANVEY ISLAND CASTAWAYS) and GABRYS IRZYK (BRATISLAVA BUZZARDS) both reached double figures, Irzyk's challenge only ended by a fall in the second Semi, to ensure they maintain their challenges in the series.  MACIEJ TERCJAK (MILTON KEYNES CATS) was another faller in the second Semi but his 9 points ensure he holds on to 11th place overall and is well within touch of the top 8 places.  The final Semi Finalist was STEEN ERIKSEN (CANVEY ISLAND CASTAWAYS) who scored a solid 8 points which is enough to hang on to a top 8 spot overall.

SCOTT BRIDGES (ABERAVON GEMS) missed out on the top 8 on countback and whilst he does hang on to a rostrum place at the moment he will be disappointed to see the gap to the series leader widen.  Wild Card pick JENS ISAKSEN (LANARKSHIRE LIONS) scored in each of his races but a lack of heat wins meant he missed out on the Semi Finals; his 8 points do however see the series reserve actually leapfrog permanent rider Martin Shaw to 15th place overall.  7 points apiece from PETR VERNER (WHITBY VAMPIRES), BRAXTON MCCHESNEY (TEESSIDE TRANSPORTERS) and HANS E BERGESTOL (TEESSIDE TRANSPORTERS) ensured the round wasn't a disaster although the trio all need to see improved results in the coming weeks if they want to reach the aims they have set themselves for this campaign.  For the rest it was a disappointing round for sure: DENIS GOMOZOV (ABERAVON GEMS) scored just 5 and drops out of the top 8 whilst, as did HAYDEN WOOD (LANARKSHIRE LIONS) who failed to score at all in this round whilst MARTIN SHAW'S (WEDNESFIELD WANDERERS) GP struggles continue with just a single point meaning he has only 4 points overall after 3 rounds.

Coming up next week are the National Finals which will see the GP stars take a break to challenge for those titles whilst the non-GP riders will want to make progress as they look to secure places in the permanent series for next season via the GP Challenge route.  After that the series returns for the Finland/Norway GP where Liam Reay will be wanting to stretch his lead whilst the chasing pack, particularly home riders Thoresen and Bergestol, will want to improve their positions at the halfway stage of the 8 rounds.  Another rider who will be wanting to make his mark will be King's Lynn's rising Czech Republic star Tibor Nemecek who has been given the Wild Card nomination for the round.
