| Chris Holmes, Craig Leonard and Ray France all made an unbeaten start to the meeting in their opening two rides, with Tommy Davey just a point behind. Going into the interval Leonard maintained his flying start by getting the better of France and Davey in heat 9 before Chris Holmes joined him on 9 points in the next race. |
| The big clash came in heat 14 when Leonard more than did his job by taking the win, with the bonus that Holmes couldn’t add anything to his points total as he came last. France kept the pressure on with a win in the next to put him just a point adrift of Leonard with Holmes and Davey two points further back. |
| Davey moved to 12 points by winning heat 17 but all eyes were now on France, up against Holmes, in the next. The former did all he could by winning the race and now the pressure shifted to Leonard who needed a win in heat 20 for the title, or second for a run-off. As the tapes went up though it was Dexter Last who got away and Leonard couldn't make an impact on the leading pair of Last and Carr meaning he would have to settle for 2nd place overall and Ray France was the new British Under 18 Champion. |
