DANISH GRAND PRIX

OLLE BJORN THORESEN (TEESSIDE TRANSPORTERS) made a slow start to this meeting, with just a single point from two rides, before reaching the latter stages on countback and going on to add 5 more points and win the round.  His 13 point total moves him up a couple of places and keeps him on the pace with the early leaders.  The big winner from the round however was defending World Champion LIAM REAY (MILTON KEYNES CATS) who racked up 17 points to move himself clear at the top of the standings after 2 rounds of the 8.  STEEN ERIKSEN (CANVEY ISLAND CASTAWAYS) completed the rostrum in his home GP and his 14 points puts him in and around the top 8, just 4 points away from the top 3 spots.  Fillippe Chong (WANTAGE KINGS) was the other finalist and although he couldn't add any points in the Grand Final he matched Thoresen's 13 point score from the round and finds himself in the same position as Eriksen on the overall leaderboard as the youngster continues to impress at senior level.

SCOTT BRIDGES (ABERAVON GEMS) had an up and down afternoon but the former champion did enough to ensure he is just a single point behind the series leader and in a strong position after 2 rounds.  GABRYS IRZYK (BRATISLAVA BUZZARDS) and DENIS GOMOZOV (ABERAVON GEMS) also reached the Semis and scored 9 points in the round with the young Pole keeping in touch with the top 8 while Gomozov keeps himself in the running for a second consecutive rostrum place in the GPs after last season's 3rd.  The final Semi Finalist was triple former champion NICK AMBROSE (CANVEY ISLAND CASTAWAYS) who picked up 8 points early on before a couple of last places saw his run end although he sits comfortably inside the top 8, just a point behind the rostrum spots, overall.

CHRIS ADAMS (WEDNESFIELD WANDERERS) couldn't quite repeat his high scoring from the first round but a solid 8 points, unlucky to miss out on the Semis on countback only, mean he holds a share of third with HANS E BERGESTOL (TEESSIDE TRANSPORTERS) on the leaderboard, Bergestol picking up 7 points in this one.  Also scoring 7 were MACIEJ TERCJAK (MILTON KEYNES CATS), PETR VERNER (WHITBY VAMPIRES) and HENRIK HANSEN (TUNSTALL TERRIORS); Tercjak left his scoring late with 2 wins not enough after just a single point from his first 3 races while Verner and Hansen both had any hopes of further progress ended by falls.  Wildcard Hansen impressed but a tumble in his 4th race meant he couldn't quite reach the Semis while Verner was very unlucky to be severely winded when brought down by Martin Shaw in his final ride and unable to take his place in the re-run.  That race brought a very disappointing meeting to an end for MARTIN SHAW (WEDNESFIELD WANDERERS) with his pointless display leaving him a big task to get himself back into contention for a top 8 spot over the coming weeks.  HAYDEN WOOD (LANARKSHIRE LIONS) didn't have his best GP performance although his 5 points mean he stays in the top 8 overall.  BRAXTON MCCHESNEY (TEESSIDE TRANSPORTERS) scored just 3 points and he slips outside the top 8 places although we're still at a very early stage of the series obviously.  The final rider to take to the track was first GP reserve JENS ISAKSEN (LANARKSHIRE LIONS) when he replaced the injured Verner and he showed what he is capable of by heading eventual round winner Thoresen home to collect a couple of points.

The GP takes a back seat in 2 weeks as the qualifying rounds for the GP series start with the Semi Finals of the national rounds.  The GP stars will be involved although obviously they are just chasing national titles with no need to qualify for the GP Challenge.  The following week the series heads down under with the Australasian Grand Prix where Jens Isaksen will get a chance to step up from reserve as the nominated wildcard for the round.
