Also reaching a debut final was Bonham-Wells who did extremely well to recover from a third ride fall as he took the last qualification place by beating current GP star and two times British Champion Shaw in a run-off. |

| The big story here was the non-qualification Black, a former champion, and Briggs who have both previously proved their quality at the highest level. In a quality field though it was always going to be tough although nobody predicted the battling display from Benson which saw him reach his first ever final. |
