BRITISH UNDER 18 SEMI FINAL

EL rider Tommy Davey, who finished 3rd in last season's final, justified his position amongst the favourites for this year's title by winning the first Semi Final, the 16 year old dropping just a single point in the meeting.  15 year old Marcus Jay did very well to take 2nd while defending British Under 18 Champion Lewie Carr made up the rostrum places and could well have challenged Davey for top spot, being the only rider to head him all afternoon, but for an engine failure in heat 9.  None of the qualifiers could really be classed as surprises, with the top 10 all competing in the EL or AL this season, although Davie Langfield was probably a little disappointed to only take a reserve place for the final.  From the JJ riders involved Young scored in each of his races while Plant picked up a heat win.

BRITISH UNDER 18 SEMI FINAL

The favourites led the way in the second Semi Final and Jason Hoskins, Dexter Last, Chris Holmes and Ray France will all be highly fancied to be battling it out for the title in 2 weeks time.  The only Power League rider in the competition took the honours in this one but the leading quarter looked very evenly matched.  As with the first semi the rider who took the reserve place for the final looked disappointed not to have done better as a pointless first heat and a fall in his last cost Mikey Frost.  There were a few promising flashes from the current crop of JJ riders with McAuliffe and 15 year old Honey scoring 5 points each while Broad would surely have done better but for a couple of falls.

So of the 16 finalists just Hoskins will be from the PL, with 3 coming from the EL and the rest representing the AL.  Half of the riders are aged 17 and so this will be their last attempt to claim the title, with just two competitors, Jay and Cormack, being 15.  Lewie Carr will be defending the title he won last season and at just 16 years of age still he has the potential to lift the trophy 3 times and match the feat achieved by current GP star Hayden Wood.  If any of the riders need any more inspiration then a look back at the list of riders to have started their medal collections in this final should do just that with former U18 rostrum finishers going on to lift the senior British title on 9 occasions and win a total of 26 senior and Under 21 World Final golds between them!
